Family Promise Welcomes New Board Member - Renee Nied

Family Promise volunteers, staff, and Board, welcome Renee Nied to the Board of Directors.

Renee had been looking for a way to be involved in the local community and Family Promise was suggested. "As a mother of young children, Family Promise’s ability to keep families together while they are going through such hardship was so important to me," said Renee, "As soon as I met with Jeff Wilhite and Chris Godios, I saw their passion for the mission and their desire to grow to meet the needs of their families, and I knew I wanted to be a part of this."

Renee is inspired by the new Survive to Thrive program and looks forward to its implementation and growth. "Family Promise staff, board, and volunteers have put their heart and soul into it and I look forward to watching it change the lives of families in our community. The support services and eventual autonomy that it gives to our families is just remarkable to me." said Renee.

When considering board leadership, Family Promise’s mission resonated with Renee. "Family Promise's commitment to keeping families together in order to alleviate some of the trauma associated with homelessness is my favorite aspect of our mission and vision. The ability to work with these families and help change the trajectory of their lives, and hopefully their children’s lives, by supporting them in achieving sustainable independence is equally important to me." noted Renee.

Renee is a lifelong resident of the Akron area and currently lives in Akron with her husband, Ben, 3 year old son and their baby on the way. She is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School and has obtained a BBA from Kent State University as well as an MBA from Ashland University. Renee has been employed by FirstEnergy since 2007 and works as an economic development advisor for the company. In her free time, Renee and her husband love to run in local races, explore the metro parks with their son, and find great new restaurants.
