In partnership with Project Rise , Family Promise presented its second annual Fun Week August 7th through 11th. This year, 12 kids in the Family Promise program participated throughout the week. The children enjoyed different activities and lunch was provided for the families each day.
Monday: A visitor from the Library Arts & Literacy Program read to the children, followed by a pizza party, and playtime at Fort Island Park in Copley.
Tuesday: The children LOVED the day at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!
Wednesday: Exploring at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, followed by pasta and smoothie making. In the afternoon we played outside and decorated canvas bags and filled them with school supplies.
Thursday: Full-day field trip to Hale Farm & Village learning about local history and the agricultural lifestyle.
Friday: The last day of Fun Week was bittersweet, we had so much fun! Kids enjoyed a closing reception at Summit Metro Parks Silver Creek Metro Park. In the morning we completed a Wicke Poetry activity followed by games and picture-book making. Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ provided a delicious lunch. Kids received gift cards to Gabriel Brothers and McDonald’s to help them with their back-to-school shopping, as well as Fun Week certificates. When we returned to Glendora House, an ice cream truck was waiting for a final Fun Week send-off!
We are incredibly grateful to Project Rise and all of our local arts and culture establishments for providing this amazing week for kids experiencing homelessness. Our kids had a fantastic week to close out summer and prep for the new school year!
