100 Women Strong Ohio Continues Support of Family Promise

WOW!  Did I say WOW!

June 4th  was an incredible evening for Family Promise and five other non-profit agencies at the 100 Women Strong Ohio Spring Event at Highfields in Hudson.

The event was to celebrate the sixth year of 100 Women Strong OHIO.

It was their sixth anniversary and you might be asking why celebrate 6?  You know how some anniversaries are a silver, or gold or diamond anniversary?  Well, as it turns out, a 6th year is “iron.”   They chose to celebrate six as iron is one of the strongest elements.  100 Women is a strong leadership group, so it was fitting to celebrate 6.

For those of you not familiar with 100 Women Strong OHIO, they donated $17,000 to FP towards renovations at Glendora/Copley Road six years ago.  In fact, we were the first gift the organization gave, having just been formed back then. Their gift was the catalyst for the additional donations we received to finish out Glendora.

100 Women Strong OHIO began as a group of women who decided to pull together their talents and resources to support non-profit charitable organizations in Summit County and Northeast Ohio.

We were one of six organizations singled out to join the event, with a table to promote who we are and what we do.

There were easily 130-140 attendees.

Each of us were asked to give a 5 minute presentation on our respective organizations.  Speaking were; Akron Snow Angels, FP, Edna House, Chair-Ity, Rahab, and Empower Sports.

We each presented and sat down.  At the conclusion of the presentations, we all were asked to re-join Jen Yozwiak and MaryJo Clark, Co-Founders and Co-Presidents on stage for what we were told was for a photo.

Jen and Maryjo proceeded to inform the organization that they had applied for, an won, the Subaru Share the Love Challenge.   At that point they unveiled an illuminated 100K sign with hearts.  100 Women Strong Ohio had won $100,000.  That was not all they did.  Jen and Maryjo turned to the 6 of us standing on stage with them for the “Photo-Op” and shared they were giving each of our organizations a portion of the $100K.  Family Promise received a check for $16,700.  Confetti cannons burst open and sparklers were illuminated and there was a whole lot of cheering!  What an experience.  Family Promise got a golden buzzer!

On behalf of the families with children, the volunteers, the Board and the staff of Family Promise, we offer our deepest appreciation to 100 Women Strong OHIO or this great partnership!
