This weekend, participants will gather at Firestone Stadium for a fun and meaningful event … Box City!
Registration & Box Set Up | 3pm-5pm
Box City will open at 3pm for registration and set up (overnight participants) with entertainment and activities beginning at 4pm.
Box City is BYOB … that is, bring your own box! Boxes will be available for purchase at the event for $3.00 (large box) CASH ONLY.
*Day-of registration can be paid with cash, check or charge.
Activities & Entertainment | 4pm-7pm
The afternoon’s activities will include: kick ball, corn hole, volleyball, face-painting, a make-and-take (courtesy of Home Depot), a box maze (courtesy of Two Men and a Truck), and more. Live entertainment will be provided by Mellow Villains. There will even be a visit from “Mater” from Cars.
Make sure to visit the Raffle Table and check out the great prizes. Enter to win the prize(s) of your choosing. Tickets are 3 Feet (21 tickets) for $5 or 6 Feet (42 tickets) for $8. The raffle drawing will take place at the beginning of the evening ceremony, and prizes may be redeemed after the ceremony. Winner need not be present.
Box City t-shirts will be available for purchase at the event. Shirts are $5 (S-XL) or $7 (XXL).
Concessions will be available from 4pm-8pm.

Dinner | 6pm
A boxed dinner will be available at 6pm. Choose from: Sundried Tomato Beef, Lemon Cilantro Chicken Tender and Nutty Muffin Pulled Pork. Served along with fresh-made corn chips & salsa, dessert and drink.
The Evening Ceremony & Candle-light Vigil | 7pm
At 7pm, the evening ceremony will begin. The ceremony will highlight family stories and conclude with a candle-light vigil to show our support to the homeless in our community.
If you participate in nothing else at Box City, you won’t want to miss the ceremony and vigil.
The ceremony will start with drawing raffle prize winners, awards for our top fundraisers, recognition of sponsors, and the presentation of the Key to Box City for the winner of the Neighborhood Beautification Award (ie, best decorated box!), and recognition of our sponsors.
Popcorn & Glow Stick Party | 8:15pm
Immediately after the vigil, treat yourself to popcorn and toppings at the “popcorn bar”!
Day visitors will be asked to exit Box City by 10pm.
Tear-Down & Close | 6am-8am
Box City closes! Feel free to grab a snack on your way out.

Box City will be a fun and meaningful event where people camp for a night in a temporary dwelling, while raising awareness of about the many homeless families with children in our community and raising money to support Family Promise of Summit County. Participants set a goal to raise a minimum $100 in pledges and contributions an sleep overnight in a cardboard box “home” as a resident of Box City. During the course of the event, there will be entertainment, activities, raffle prizes, and awards. The evening will culminate in a candle-light vigil to show homeless families they have the support of the community.
Box City is open to people of all ages and affiliations. We encourage youth groups, service organizations, school service clubs, community groups, sports teams, Boy & Girl Scouts, etc. to use this event as a community service and learning project. The activities and entertainment are geared toward families, and participants will sleep outdoors in a secure area. A minimum of one adult (age 21 and over) per seven youth under the age of 18 participating in Box City is required.

While sleeping in a cardboard box can provide a valuable lesson in empathy, we understand that for health or personal reasons not everyone is able to. We encourage participation as a “virtual resident” (raise funds but sleep at home). Virtual residents are welcome to attend the day’s programming, dinner, and evening ceremony.
Visitors are also welcome and encouraged to check out Box City. Enjoy the day’s programming, dinner, and evening ceremony. Visitors will be asked to leave at lights out (10pm).
