Family Promise of Summit County Prepares for Walk a Mile 2012

Volunteers brave the winter weather to show support for homeless families in the community

Registration is now available for the Family Promise of Summit County 7th annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes. The event kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 and will begin at Fairlawn West UCC. The actual route will be announced the day of the event based on weather conditions.

Our 2011 Walk a Mile participants

There will be free registration available on the day of the event, but participants are encouraged to register early. Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and music provided by Mixed Up Strings.

Family Promise of Summit County has served hundreds of families struggling with homelessness. During these challenging economic times, it can be difficult to provide temporary housing to families in transition. The organization relies on community volunteers and supporters to make a difference for these local families in need.

“It is always a day of joy for me to get to spend time with so many of our volunteers who come from all over Summit county to support the work we do and celebrate our efforts,” said Pamela Betty, director of Family Promise of Summit County.

In 2011, Walk a Mile in My Shoes raised more than $6,000. Proceeds from the event go directly to Family Promise.
