Family Promise of Summit County will host its second annual Empty Bowl fundraiser from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron. Artist Rhiannon Barnes and fellow art students from the University of Akron Art Education Department have teamed up with the COYA youth group to make ceramic bowls that will be filled with homemade soups to share at the event.

“These empty bowls remind us that every night in Summit County, more than 500 people go without a meal or place to sleep,” said Pamela Betty, director of Family Promise of Summit County. “We rely on a network of over 30 faith-based organizations of all denominations to provide lodging, food and volunteers.”

It’s $15 to participate in the fundraiser, which includes a one-of-a kind, handcrafted bowl, fresh soups, salad and dessert.

“It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the work of Family Promise, honor those that volunteer their time and effort and raise much needed funds,” said Russell Kunz, volunteer coordinator of Family Promise of Summit County. “We are grateful to the art students at the University of Akron for the bowls, and to Rev. Tim Temerson and the UUCA for opening their doors to host this event.”

Bowls are on a first come, first reserved basis. To ensure you receive a bowl, please RSVP early by emailing us or by calling 330.253.8081. Remaining bowls will be available at the door.
