Cardoard Box City Update

Thanks to all who participated in our first Cardboard Box City awareness event. More info will follow regarding plans for holding the event in 2012.

• The average age of a homeless person is NINE-years old.

• At any time, there are 4,000 people who are homeless in Summit County.

• In its 2007 survey of 23 American cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors found that families with children comprised 23% of the homeless population (U.S. Conference of Mayors, 2007).

• Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, representing about 41% of all homeless people (NCH, August 2007).

• One out of 50—or about 1.5 million—American children are homeless each year, according to a 2009 study by the National Center on Family Homelessness.
